As a consultant plastic surgeon with many years' experience, Dean Boyce's expertise in matters reconstructive extend to the conditions listed below. Additionally, he is assisted by a team of
specialised and experienced healthcare professionals, within a safe and supportive working environment.
Hand surgery
Mr Boyce provides a supraregional subspecialty service for hand surgery, ranging from trauma, such as cut tendons or fractures, to limb replantation, cerebral palsy, complex reconstructive, and congenital hand surgery. Within the NHS, Dean Boyce has also published widely on hand surgery, and lectures internationally.
Mr Boyce is one of three surgeons in the UK who have pioneered the use of collagenase treatment (Xiapex) for treating Dupuytren's disease, and continues to pioneer treatment in this area of expertise.
Peripheral Nerve Surgery
This refers to injuries of nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord. Mr Boyce and his specialist team offer surgical care for a wide range of problems in this category. Such conditions may give rise to numbness and loss of function in the hands, such as carpal or cubital tunnel syndrome, or weakness (such as post injury). Surgery to the nerves must usually be done urgently. However, once nerve damage has occurred, function can often be considerably improved by surgery to transfer working tendons. Mr Boyce has established the Welsh Peripheral Nerve Surgery Unit to treat complex nerve injuries of all kinds, including those of the brachial plexus.
